Top 10 Conventions of Drum 'n' Bass

There are a variety of conventions which are included when looking at the genre of drum and bass. Here are my top 10 conventions for this genre:

1. Everything in the video starts off with a slow pace editing. However, when the music speeds up so does everything in the scene.

2.  There is a lot of slow motion is used just before the beat is about to drop. This is also used in conjunction with the pace of the editing.

3. The majority of videos start off with slow cutting, however, throughout the video the cuts become harsher and faster.

4. Dark lighting is used throughout most of the videos.

5. Dark clothing is worn not only by the artist but also the people in the video. However, there is usually a significant item or particular piece of clothing which is worn by the artist to tell them apart from the other people in the video.

6. The artist is not always in the video throughout. There are snippets of the artist in the video but are not constantly in it throughout the music video.

7. There is a lot rewinding in the music video. They usually start off with a specific item or object and then it is rewound later on in the video.

8. There is not always a direct relation between lyrics and visuals. Sometimes there can be something completely random to what they are saying.

9. There are close ups of the artist singing into the camera.

10.  The artists face may be hidden in some way. This may be by a mask or object for example.
